Work out what it costs to charge an electric car. Enter the battery capacity, the electricity price and the charging efficiency to get the cost of a full charge and the cost per 100 km, then add petrol figures to see the difference. These figures are approximations for general information only. Real costs depend on your tariff, charger losses, consumption and local fuel prices.

How to Use the EV Charging Cost Calculator
Enter the battery capacity, the electricity price per kWh, the charging efficiency and the consumption. Optionally add petrol L/100km and price to compare. Press Calculate.
Reading the results
Cost of a full charge is capacity ÷ efficiency × price — the energy actually drawn from the grid.
EV cost per 100 km is consumption ÷ efficiency × price.
Petrol cost per 100 km is L/100km × fuel price, if you entered them.
Saving per 100 km is petrol minus EV; a negative figure means petrol is cheaper here.
Tips
Home off-peak charging is usually far cheaper than fast public chargers, and cold weather increases consumption. Charging losses are real, so the efficiency field matters more than it looks.
Features
